Things might have gotten a little slower and harder in the Fort Collins community but that doesn’t mean that this Spring can’t be the freshest start to a new year in a new home. I am currently in the process of renting for the upcoming Fall and in looking at the market I have lots of questions that google can’t answer. I thought that I might need some more professional advice.

Trying to find an in-person interview during a pandemic is more challenging than it sounds but if this pandemic has taught me anything, we can make do.

In searching for a professional to inquire about housing laws in Colorado, I found a website called askalaweroncall.com. The front page looks like the following image:

The advertisement was for a risk-free membership to talk one-on-one with a verified lawyer. The catch is a five-dollar entry fee. I pondered this for a bit. It seemed a little too good to be true.

The following is an approved interview from the verified lawyer Matthew:

The following questions were conducted as such:

1. To start off, I wanted to know if you are a native to Colorado or have ever lived in the state? Do You have a family? Where’d you grow up? How long have you been a lawyer?

If so — — — I wanted to ask if you have personally dealt with a bad landlord or tenant issue and if so would you be willing to disclose some information about how you dealt with the difficult situation.

2. What are three pieces of advice you would give to me when buying or renting in Colorado.

3. Is there anything else you would like me to know about you or landlord/tenant laws in Colorado?

Thank you for your time and openness. Have a great evening!

What I received back was the following:

Well I was right to be suspicious as the first five-dollar fee turned into a chat box with a lawyer but I would have to pay another 59 dollars in order to speak with him over the phone. Trust your instincts.

Thankfully the experience and professional advice exceeded my expectations. I did not end up paying 59 dollars to speak with the professional lawyer over the phone.

I leveled with Matthew

The following is an approved interview from the verified lawyer Matthew:

In the image above, Matthew disclosed quite some information for no knowing who I am or what I even look like. I could be a robot for all he knew. But he felt I was being genuine and honest in inquiring about his personal experience. I asked him a few personal questions about my current living situation in which he was helpful in advising. I would say this experience was harder than intended but benefiting from it all the same.

He did keep on trying to push the old “Want to switch to a live phone call?” I completely understand he was helping me out a lot and for that, he got 5 stars.
